You’ve decided to run Ultra Paine. Bravo! You’re about to experience an incredible experience in one of the wildest and most magical places on the planet. But of course… questions start popping up like popcorn: What should I bring? Where should I stay? What if it rains? What if a guanaco eats me?
Don’t worry. We’ll answer everything you might have on your mind here. Spoiler alert: the guanaco is a vegetarian. 😄

🧳 1. What should I wear for running?
Ultra Paine isn’t just any race. It’s trail running in Patagonia, which means the weather can change faster than your excuses for not training.
✔️ The essentials:
- Trail shoes (with good grip, don’t come with urban ones).
- Waterproof windbreaker, even if it’s sunny in the morning.
- Technical t-shirt, thermal layers, hat or buff, gloves if you are going for +21K.
- Hydration pack or belt, especially from 14K onwards.
- Snacks or energy gels (never underestimate hunger at kilometer 17!).
⚠️ For long distances (35K, 50K, 80K):
- Walking sticks (optional but HIGHLY recommended).
- Thermal blanket, whistle, headlamp, reusable cup (required for 50K/80K).
- GPS or watch with altimeter, if you have one.
🧥 2. What clothes should you wear if it's cold, windy, sunny... or all of the above?
Welcome to Patagonia, where you can experience four seasons in a single kilometer. The key is layers. Like an onion… but cooler.
- First layer: dries sweat.
- Second layer: warm.
- Third layer: protects from wind/rain.
👟 Golden tip: Test your clothes during training! Race day is not the time to break in new tights.
🧭 3. Is there a signal on the route? Will I be able to make a video call from the summit?
No. You’re in Patagonia. There are places with no signal or Wi-Fi, but with guanacos, glaciers, and condors.
Better take advantage of this time to disconnect from the world and connect with nature!
The organization has checkpoints and communication for security, but your cell phone will serve more as a camera than a telephone.
🌦️ 4. What happens if it rains or snows?
It runs the same. This is trail riding! Rain makes it more epic, snow more photogenic… and wind more challenging.
The organization will only suspend or modify the route if conditions are truly dangerous.
And if there’s sun… take advantage of it like a miracle!

🛌 5. Where do I stay? Do I have to sleep in a tent?
No. Unless you’re a Viking, the best option is to stay in Puerto Natales, where there are hostels, hotels, cabins, and even glamping sites.
Our agency will arrange for you to find comfortable, nearby accommodations, with early breakfasts (so you don’t have to rush on an empty stomach) and all the details. Just bring your sneakers.
🏃 6. Can I go if I'm not an ultra runner?
Of course!
Ultra Paine offers distances for all levels, from 7K to 80K. Many runners are making their first trail run here. What’s more, many simply walk and enjoy the surroundings.
💬 “Running” is relative. This is about moving forward, at your own pace, and enjoying the journey.
👫 7. Can my partner, my children, my friends come?
Yes! Ultra Paine is a family-friendly event, offering tour programs, excursions, hikes, and incredible views for everyone.
We even organize special outings for those who DON’T run but want to enjoy the park while you’re in Rocky mode.
🎉 8. And after the race, what?
Celebrate! They’re waiting for you:
- An incredible medal (which looks like a collector’s item!).
- A recovery area with drinks, fruit, and good vibes.
- And if you travel with us, we also include transfers, post-race dinners, and activities to relax and recount your achievement in style.
