Embark on an unforgettable experience sailing through the historic Strait of Magellan to the Los Pingüinos Natural Monument, home to the region’s enchanting wildlife.
On our excursion to Magdalena Island, you’ll meet the iconic Magellanic penguin, an agile swimmer measuring between 50 and 70 cm and spending much of its life in the water. These birds, which live from Tierra del Fuego to southern Brazil, form one of the largest colonies in Patagonia on Magdalena Island, where more than 150,000 penguins await you in their natural habitat.
Navigation to Magdalena Island
The tour begins with pickup at Prat Píer in Punta Arenas. From there, we’ll head to the northern part of the city to board a modern ferry equipped with a spacious upper deck, ideal for enjoying panoramic views.
The approximately 1.5-hour cruise will take you through the majestic Strait of Magellan, a setting that will transport you to the heart of Patagonia. Upon reaching Magdalena Island, we’ll disembark and you’ll have about an hour to explore the penguin colony.
You can walk to the island’s old lighthouse, from where you’ll enjoy a spectacular view of the landscape surrounding this natural paradise.
At the end of the visit, we’ll return to the ferry to begin the return journey to Punta Arenas. Once at the pier, you’ll be transferred back to Prat Píer, where you can re-embark your cruise with unforgettable memories of this experience.
