Description
The 2-Day Inca Trail is the shorter version of the classic 4-day Inca Trail, making it a perfect option for those short on time but keen to experience hiking to Machu Picchu along the original Inca Trail. This trekking route, called “The Sacred Inca Trail”, is a 12-kilometer trek along the original trail.
You’ll have the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu twice. On the first day, in the afternoon, and on the second day, in the morning. Therefore, you’ll enjoy watching both the sunset and sunrise. On the second day of the tour, you can enjoy Machu Picchu all day.
The famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most iconic and unforgettable hikes you can do in your life.
Itinerary
DAY 1: CUSCO | OLLANTAYTAMBO – KM 104 – MACHU PICCHU
We’ll begin this journey by picking you up at your hotel and then driving for three hours from Cusco to the Ollantaytambo train station. From here, we’ll take the train to Km. 104, where we’ll begin our incredible Inca Trail hike.
Our adventure begins with a four-hour uphill hike to the Wiñaywayna (Forever Young) archaeological site. We’ll enjoy our boxed lunch here in the mountains and have free time to rest and enjoy the beautiful views.
Next, we’ll continue our hike, heading toward a site called Inti Punku (the Sun Gate). From this spot, we’ll be able to look down and admire the magnificent Inca citadel of Machu Picchu! This is the official end of the Inca Trail.
We’ll end our first day of adventure by following the side trail toward the Machu Picchu exit, where we’ll take the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes. There, we’ll have dinner and then rest comfortably at the lodge.
