Enjoy the Week Trekking to discover the most beautiful trails in Patagonia
The Week Trekking is a program that was made especially for lovers of trekking and nature. In other words, you will enjoy seven days in Patagonia with a program designed so that you get to know the most beautiful trails and tourist spots.
You will stay in the city of Puerto Natales, which is a charming city of approximately 22 thousand inhabitants. You will be in a very well located point, making it possible to visit the main trails of Chilean Patagonia. The Week Trekking program is perfect to get to know the region with your partner or friends.
Get to know the Milodon Cave, the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers and the Torres del Paine Park
You will begin by getting to know the Milodon Cave Natural Monument, a place made up of three caves, where the remains of Milodons were found. The Mylodon was a large herbivorous mammal that probably became extinct at the end of the Plaistocene. You will also see rock formations with cave paintings.
Then, on a calmer day on the Week Trekking, you will visit two Patagonian glaciers. With the Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers excursion you will navigate through the Fjord of Última Esperanza, thus entering the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park to see the glaciers.
You will also get to know Sierra Baguales, a place with more than 50 million years of history that will amaze you with its jagged reliefs and dark mountains. You can go horseback riding and trekking through the more than 6,000 hectares of the place, discovering lagoons, winding rivers, geological formations and fossils.
Also, obviously the Week Trekking program will take you to the famous Torres del Paine National Park. Surely, this park is a mandatory stop on a trip to Patagonia. It will be two days there, so you can have different views of this beautiful place. You will do the Torres del Paine Full Day and the famous Towers Base Trek.
Day 1 – Arrival and Welcome
Welcome in Puerto Natales, depending on the time of arrival we make a historical City Tour of the city, later we settle in our room and carry out the briefing of the activities and recommendation of a restaurant for dinner. Then you will have your first night of accommodation.
Day 2 – Towers Base
After a good breakfast we are ready to return to the Torres del Paine National Park to begin a demanding excursion to the Towers base, deserving of all the fame it holds. With a total of 20 km, the first part of the walk is through the Ascencio Valley, arriving at the El Chileno camp, continuing into a Lenga forest opening the way until the last 45-minute ascent to admire the Torres del Paine. The return begins arriving at sunset in Puerto Natales.
Day 3 – Torres del Paine + Grey Glacier Trekking
We have an early breakfast to make the trip to the excellence of the region, we refer to the Torres del Paine National Park where we can visit the Grey Glacier located within the park next to the Paine Massif. The first section is done by Zodiac in order to get closer to Nunatak Island, and thus be able to walk on it for about an hour, and access the glacier more safely.
Once there, we start a walk that can last between 40 minutes and 1 hour until we reach the access to the ice. This route is uphill on rocky terrain and has a medium difficulty.
Before entering the glacier, the guide will give a safety talk in which he will explain the techniques of moving on the ice and the correct use of the equipment. Once the talk is over, the incomparable ice trekking adventure will begin for about 2.5 hours on the Grey Glacier, observing cracks, rivers, lagoons, tunnels and ice caves.
Duration: approximately 5 hours
Difficulty: High First of all, we recommend being in good physical shape to carry out the activity, since it requires considerable energy expenditure, especially in its first part. If you have physical problems or are not used to practicing this type of sports, it is not the right option for you.
Day 4 – French Valley
We will start the day at 6 in the morning leaving Puerto Natales in the direction of Torres del Paine National Park in our private transport that has trekking poles and certified guides. After 2 hours of travel we will arrive at the Pudeto sector, where we begin our departure boarding the catamaran, which will leave us at the Paine Grande refuge for this excursion. Arriving at the Paine Grande refuge, we will begin the trek towards the French Valley, following the north shore of Lake Pehoé, with a view of the Paine Horns.
We will walk along the path that belongs to W Circuit, which is the intermediate vertical line of this route. In 3 hours and 30 minutes, we will arrive at the French Viewpoint where we will appreciate the hills Hoja, Espada and Fortaleza. After 1 hour at the viewpoint we will have time to rest, have lunch and recover energy. We begin the return towards the Paine Grande refuge, completing 20 km of walking and we will board the catamaran that will take us back to Pudeto, where our van will be waiting for us. At approximately 9:00 p.m., we will return to Puerto Natales
Day 5 – Sierra Baguales
In Chile there are few places that can match the disturbing beauty of this isolated volcanic mountain range, located between 600 and 1,200 meters above sea level and about 120 kilometers north of the city of Puerto Natales, we find these jagged reliefs and dark mountains that amaze any of its visitors. We refer to Sierra Baguales, a place known for its troops of wild horses (Baguales).
We will visit a ranch where we can go horseback riding as well as interesting trekking through the more than 6,000 hectares of the place, we will visit lagoons, winding rivers, geological and fossil formations. From its hills you can see herds of wild horses, guanacos, condors and the typical flora and fauna of Chilean Patagonia, making this excursion a unique and incomparable experience in Patagonia.
