FAQ

What is the weather like and what is the best season to do this activity?

Waqrapukara, being located in Cusco, has two marked seasons; the dry season from March to October and the rainy season from November to April. In the months of August and September it is common to find constant winds that can increase in these months. The average temperature is 19°C while the coldest nights are even -6°C.
Due to the fact that in rainy seasons, there is the possibility of not being able to appreciate the wonderful landscape well and the walk can be more rigid due to the presence of mud.

What does Waqrapukara mean?

The word Waqrapukara, is translated as the “Fortress of the horns”, making mention of the horns of the cattle that can be noticed when arriving at the mountain. However, for the communities of Acos, this fortress is known as Llamapukara, since they assure that the horns are actually the ears of a llama that remains alert in the presence of foreigners.
There is also the name Llaqtapukara which would translate as “people’s barracks”, referring to the place in general.
